Hi there! My name is Melani and I am a 28 year old bride to be and I am excited to share my wedding plans and dreams with you all!

Like most little girls, I dreamt of meeting my Prince Charming, getting married, and riding off into happily ever after. So how did it happen?…

My fairytale romance began on the 7th December 2002 at my then good friend Laurene’s 18th birthday in the tiny town of Eildon, Victoria, Australia. She had told me she had a friend coming along to her birthday who was ‘perfect’ for me, and that she was going to set us up!

I laughed at her when she said this, but when the time came for her celebrations, I remember being nervous and wondering what he was going to be like. I’d never had a boyfriend – there had been guys I was interested in, but they had been nice to start with then turned into the stereotypical jerk rather a lot quicker than I’d care to think about!

I remember when I laid eyes on my Fiancé… He was a typical country boy, really polite, well spoken, and a gentleman. I felt so at ease with him, and we got talking early in the night, and we didn’t stop. I don’t remember much of what went on at the party, because I spent the whole time with him! I learnt a lot about my Fiancé that night and I can safely say that leaving him to go home the next day, was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. With him hailing from Mount Beauty up near Albury Wodonga, and myself from the Mornington Peninsula, five and a half hours would separate us til we could see each other again. Thankfully, his studies brought him to the big smoke, and our relationship quickly flourished, and we found ourselves inseparable. I knew this was my happily ever after.

Being that we were 17 and 18 respectively at the time we met, marriage was a ways off for the first few years. We wanted to get through university and a few things that life had decided to throw our way (my mum getting sick was the biggest hurdle) and then we wanted to be a bit more financially secure before that big step was taken. It wasn’t however, until November 28th 2012, just 9 days before our 10th anniversary, that he would change my life forever.

I’ll never forget the moment that he proposed.

We were on holidays with two of our good friends in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We’d been invited by the resort where we were staying, to participate in their traditional celebrations of Loy Krathong and Yi Peng. We enjoyed a beautiful dinner by the riverside with our friends Warren and Paul, and were then invited to float our Krathong (lotus shaped container made from banana leaves used to give thanks to the water spirits) down the river followed by releasing a lantern into the sky.

As we stood there watching our lantern, I thought to myself “Imagine being proposed to under a sky like tonight’s. I wonder if there’s a lucky girl out there somewhere whose knight in shining armour has made her the happiest girl alive.”

A moment later, Dusty swept me into a wonderful big hug whilst we continued to watch our lantern fly away, when suddenly I was being kissed, only to a second later be presented with possibly the most perfect, beautiful ring I’ve ever seen!

So, I guess it begs an answer to the question “I wonder if there’s a lucky girl out there somewhere whose knight in shining armour has made her the happiest girl alive?”

Yes, that wonderful, fateful night, there was a lucky girl whose knight in shining armour made her the happiest girl alive, and for the record, it was perfect. In every way imaginable it was perfect. In all my life, I could never have imagined how, after 9 years and 357 days together he would propose, nor could I have known how blessed I would be to have the support of some wonderful and dear friends in the days after our engagement.

So we have now been engaged for almost a year and a half and for the most part it has been the happiest time of my life.

We decided to keep our engagement to ourselves until Christmas so as to tell our families first – which for the most part worked – although I did tell a few close friends in the early days, I mean, how does one keep this kind of news secret!

We are now planning our dream wedding which will be held in Fiji in May 2015 and we are so excited! A destination wedding provides me with an awesome challenge (the logistics are mind boggling!) but I’m hoping that my years of work in the wedding industry will help me get things done smoothly and maybe even help someone else out in the process!

I would love to hear about how your fiancé proposed to you, and where you’re at with your wedding plans, and any questions you think I can help with, so don’t be afraid to post in the comments!

I can’t wait to share my wedding plans with you all – it’s going to be the ride of a lifetime!

Love and Light,

Melani
