REAL WEDDING
Megan & Simon
Married 11th January 2014
An Interview with Bride, Megan
Our wedding day was very relaxed, calm, full of laughter, joy and love, not to mention the weather was perfect a sunny 21 degrees in the middle of summer. The morning started off well my beautiful girlfriends and I meeting up for breakfast before my absolutely amazing maid of honour Sharnti and I headed off to have our hair and makeup done. Once glammed up we arrived back at Thredbo to have lunch and hang out with the family until our fantastic photographer Kristy arrived to start taking photos. After many giggles getting ready with my mum, friends and family we headed off to the Thredbo Chapel. Later I found out Simon’s day was similar he strolled around Thredbo village meeting up with friends and family before heading back to his hotel room with his best man Pete and family to get ready.
The ceremony itself was conducted by Father Peter Miller and Reverend Jenni Roberts, being different religions we decided that a representative from both faiths would make our day even more memorable. It felt like forever walking up the isle with my Dad next to me even though he had to tell me to slow down. The ceremony itself was full of laughter, love and joy especially after the best man Pete dropped the wedding rings. After the Ceremony the four of us and Kristy headed up the chair lift take some magnificent photos. Having Kristy there with her knowledge of Thredbo and knowing areas to take photos made the whole experience just fantastic. This allowed Simon, Pete, Sharnti and I time to relax together and have fun while having some amazing shots taken.
After all the photos had been taken we joined our guests at the Thredbo Alpine Resort for drinks and canapés. The reception itself was so much fun, we started off with some Polish traditions and Vodka, then rest of the night flowed well with some wonderful speeches from the Father’s and best man and one that broke from tradition was the maid of honour Sharnti who did a rap with backup singers and dancers. The night was also made special by allowing us to celebrate with family and friends who had travelled all across Australia to be there and many of them celebrated their own wedding anniversaries and birthdays across the weekend with us.
Our thanks goes to the wonderful team at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel especially Emma and Dan who helped plan everything with us and even allowed us to set the Reception up days in advance so we could enjoy our time with our families and friends, they went above and beyond. Dan even organised food and drinks to be delivered to our hotel room after the reception to make sure we were happy and feed. They are an amazing group of people at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel nothing was too difficult and they looked after us and all our guest who stayed with them.
Also thanks to Nic for the most beautiful bouquets possible, my family and friends were amazed and my Granny is still showing photos to all her friends and explaining ‘Yes they are made out of button’s aren’t they just amazing’.
The Wedding in a Nutshell!
The wedding was planned over 12 months
Ceremony: Thredbo Chapel, NSW
Reception: Thredbo Alpine Hotel, NSW
Favourite Memory/ Moment of the Day:
- The best man dropping the rings during the ceremony
- My beautiful maid of honour Sharnti did her speech as a rap (back up singer and dancer included)
- Spending some quality time with my Dad before we went to the Chapel
- Going up the chair lift to the top of Thredbo for our wedding photos this also gave Simon and I time to spend together alone
Advice for those getting married:
It’s your day! Do and plan what will make you and your future husband happy. To do this we stopped asking family and friends what they thought of our ideas as some people can be very negative and just did it our way which made our day exceed our own expectations.
Why did I choose Nics Button Buds?:
I wanted something I could keep that wouldn’t fade or die and I could coordinate with our colour choices. Also having a destination wedding sourcing a florist just seemed like a nightmare. This way the bouquets, button holes and corsages all arrived 6 weeks before the wedding and stayed boxed up until needed the night before.
